The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good robot vacuum as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic auto vacuum and mop/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robotic mop and vacuum robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaner uk makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and best robot hoover could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they are.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
